According to the World Bank, hundreds of millions of children go to school but don't acquire even the basic skills. But what of those who do acquire them? Can we say that at least the system has not failed them? Or have they merely been crammed with the minimum skills necessary to lead unfulfilled lives, work in unsatisfactory jobs, the fruits of their labours going to a privileged elite?
