Want to read fluently in English? This video introduces reading for gist β an essential reading skill that's often confused with skimming and scanning, but is quite different from both.
Skimming ...means reading quickly to get a general idea of a text. Scanning means looking for specific information. Reading for gist is something else entirely β and once you understand it, it will transform the way you approach reading in English.
Using the opening page of J.K. Rowling's Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone as our text, I show you how reading for gist can help you build fluency and vocabulary, and feel genuinely connected with the language β intellectually and emotionally.
Acknowledgement: A special "thank you" to Fabio Bustamente for the wizard animations!
If subtitles/captions are not available in your language, please let me know and I will add them. If you find errors in the subtitles/captions, please let me know and I will correct them.
