Kubla Khan, by Samuel Taylor Coleridge: A plain reading
For an analysis of the poem itself, click here: https://youtu.be/PWpiUTfmY48.
You can also find my analysis of the poem's famous ...preface, in which Coleridge tells us that the poem was written under the influence of an "anodyne" (elsewhere specified as opium, prescribed for medicinal purposes) and left unfinished after he was interrupted by "a person from Porlock" (a nearby village): https://youtu.be/LFVd8IPkCwc

I sometimes pass through Porlock on my motorcycle, and every time I see the signs for Porlock I think of Coleridge’s opium dreams.
I have many childhood memories of that part of the world. It’s a nice place to be!
🙂
Great!!
